In a devastating turn of events, a twin-engine turboprop plane crashed in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, resulting in the loss of all 61 individuals aboard. The flight, en route from Cascavel in Paraná to Guarulhos airport in São Paulo City, tragically met its fate in the town of Vinhedo, as reported by Voepass airline.
Footage circulating on social media captures the harrowing moment when the ATR 72-500 aircraft spiraled down vertically before crashing.
With 57 passengers and four crew members onboard, the plane’s descent ended in a devastating outcome, with no survivors reported by local authorities.
Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva expressed solidarity with the families and friends of the victims, while São Paulo’s state Governor Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas declared three days of mourning in honor of those who lost their lives in the tragic incident.
Investigation commences as flight recorders recovered
Authorities confirmed the retrieval of the flight recorders and announced plans for a thorough investigation into the crash.
ATR, the plane manufacturer, pledged its cooperation in the investigation process to shed light on the circumstances leading to the fatal accident.
Despite the plane crashing in a residential area, no injuries were reported among the local residents on the ground.
Only one home in a condominium complex sustained damage, while the area was engulfed in flames and smoke, prompting immediate response from police and fire services.
