Tragic Incident Unfolds In Lira City: Police Launch Investigation Into Death Of Self-Employed Man

In the North Kyoga Region of Lira, Uganda, authorities are delving into a perplexing case concerning the demise of a 44-year-old man, Ogwal Bonny, a self-employed individual residing in Ober Kampala, Ojwina Ward, Lira City.

The unfortunate incident, believed to be a case of murder, transpired on December 4, 2024, within the confines of Ober Kampala Cell in Lira City West Division.

SP Okema, the spokesperson for the North Kyoga Region, disclosed that the investigation was initiated following a report lodged by Ojwang Fred, a resident of Obutuwelo ‘B’ Cell, Obutuwelo Ward, Lira City West Division.

Allegedly, on the fateful evening of December 4, 2024, at approximately 19:30 hours, Ogwal Bonny returned home in an inebriated state and retired to rest within his abode.

The morning of December 5, 2024, brought a grim revelation as neighbors discovered Bonny’s residence with its door ajar. Their alarm peaked when they spotted him lying motionless in a pool of blood, accompanied by a blood-stained large stone nearby.

The authorities were promptly notified, leading to the initiation of a murder case at the Lira-City West Division Police Station.

Swift police action results in arrests

A swift response ensued as a team of law enforcement officers, including canine units and SOCO personnel, descended upon the scene led by the Division CID Officer.

The diligent efforts bore fruit with the arrest of five suspects from the Ober Kampala vicinity, identified as Okeny Innocent, Akite Jacinta, Otuke William Joshua, Okello Ivan, and Ogwok Emmanuel.

These individuals were taken into custody at the Lira-City West Division police cells to aid in the ongoing investigation.

In the aftermath of this tragic event, the lifeless body of Ogwal was transferred to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for further examination.

As authorities strive to unravel the circumstances surrounding his demise, Police PRO SP Jimmy Okema implores the public to come forward with any pertinent information that could shed light on this grievous incident.
