A tragic road crash at Mayanja Valley along the Kampala-Bombo Road has resulted in the loss of five lives and left 21 individuals wounded.
The collision involved a total of nine motor vehicles—UBQ 745N T/Noah, UAY 704B T/Hiace, UAT 652K T/Hiace, UBK 769A Fuso Super Grande, UBD 829G T/Hiace, UAL 333C T/Corolla, UAV 026F T/Hiace, UBQ 062B T/Sienta, and UBD 483N T/Hiace—along with one motorcycle (UES 773K Yamaha).
Initial reports from Traffic Police Spokesperson Michael Kananura suggest that the driver of motor vehicle UBK 769A Fuso Super Grande, traveling towards Bombo from Kampala, lost control while descending Mayanja Valley.
This loss of control led to a collision involving nine vehicles and a motorcycle that were also traveling in the same direction.
Immediate impact and response
The tragic road crash resulted in the immediate loss of five individuals in the vehicles and the motorcycle, with an additional 21 passengers sustaining injuries, predominantly in the T/Hiace vehicles.
The injured individuals were promptly transported to Mulago Hospital for urgent medical attention, while the deceased were taken to Mulago City Mortuary for further procedures.
Following the tragic incident, the involved vehicles were towed to Kawempe Police Station for thorough inspection as authorities initiated investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
In light of this unfortunate event, Michael Kananura emphasized the importance of road safety, urging all motorists to prioritize vehicle maintenance, adhere to speed limits, and practice defensive driving to prevent such grievous accidents in the future.
