The Red Devils have failed to pick up a win in two of their opening UEFA Europa League games.
They drew 1-1 at Old Trafford with FC Twente in the opening game and avoided defeat last night against FC Porto after a 3-3 draw. Ten Hag’s side bottled a 2-0 lead with Porto even scoring a third.
However, Harry Maguire saved the day with a 91st-minute winner after an assist from Christian Eriksen.
United’s captain Bruno Fernandez got a red card in the 81st minute reducing his side to 10 men. This was his second successive red card in two games with the first coming in the 3-0 loss to Tottenham last weekend although it was rescinded by the FA.
Reacting to the game in a post-match conference, Ten Hag asked the fans and media not to judge his side right now. They should wait for the season to end and do the assessment. He’s definitely sure that things will have changed and trophies will be won.
“We are in the process. Just wait,” he told TNT Sports.
“Don’t judge us now in this moment, judge us at the end of the season.”
The Dutchman also revealed why he made a couple of team selections, such as taking Marcus Rashford off and leaving Garnacho on the bench. According to the former Ajax manager, there are a lot of games coming up and he needs his best players to be in their best form.
“He was ok, no issues but we just need to rotate,” he said about Rashford.
“Also Alejandro Garnacho is our attacking threat in this moment and we brought him from the bench.”
