Two Children Perish In House Fire After Mother Locked Them Inside

Police in Katwe has launched an investigation into a fire incident that led to the death of two children. Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said the incident took place on Thursday night in Kifamba Zone, Makindye Division in Kampala City.

He further said the fire prevention and rescue team managed to respond to the incident. The team successfully extinguished the flames before they spread. However, by the time this happened, they had already burnt the two infants to death.

“Investigations have now shown that the mother, identified as Nanono Farida a resident of Kifamba, locked her two children Babirye Nabaka, 4, and Ssembatya Karim , 2, in her single room to go fetch water. A fire started and the two children were burnt beyond recognition,” said Owoyesigire.

Meanwhile, police conveyed the two bodies to city mortuary for Postmortem as investigations into the cause of the fire continue.

In related news, a few weeks ago, a school fire outbreak at Bilal secondary school in Bwaise also gutted dormitories of students leading to losses of valuable property for hundreds of students.

Apparently, the fire started when the students were attending preps. However, the school authorities revealed that the outbreak didn’t injure any student.

The Headmaster of Bilal Secondary school Sheikh Muhammed Kamoga confirmed the accident. He further reassured the parents and stakeholders that they didn’t lose any students, however, students lost property in the incident.
