Two Police Officers Killed By UPDF Soldiers

Two police officers who were allegedly attempting to rob a woman were shot dead along side a civilian who was supposedly there accomplice. These three were killed by the Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) soldiers.

The woman who was going to be robbed was travelling from Entebbe International Airport. One of the deceased it is said that he was attached to the Police Headquarters armory.

Maj Bilal Yusuf Katamba, the first division spokesman said they got information about the robbery before it happened and decided to follow the robbers. He narrated that the robbers blocked the airport taxi where the woman was. They put the driver on gunpoint and the army officers just shot and killed them without hesitation.

The deceased followed were in a Toyota Harrier as they trails the woman in the airport taxi. This incident happened around Makindye, Ssabagabo Municipality.

The deceased happened to be Fred Turyomunsi, Constable Ambrose Byareta and the civilian was identified as James.

A week has not even passed since two police officers were arrested after they wanted to extort money out of a businessman.

This is very bad publicity for the police but may also be communicating something. We don’t know if some police officers are stealing because of little pay or anything related to it. One thing we know is that this paints the police in a very suspicious image.
