Performance of 2017 UCE candidates has improved at Division 1 at nearly 10% up from 7.5% in 2016

4 in 10 students that sat UCE exams scored the lowest available grade [4] while 8.9% failed. 9.9% scored the highest available grade [1] . 6,093 of those who registered didn’t sit the national exam.
Males performed better than females except in English language, this trend in disparity between performance of male and female candidates has been observed over years.
Performance in sciences has remained poor. Passes at distinction and credit level in Physics and chemistry are below 20%. Physics remains the worst done subject.
UNEB is withholding UCE results of 4525 candidates (1.4% of candidates who sat) from 112 centres suspected to have involved themselves in various forms of examination malpractice.
8 of the 10 worst performing districts are from the Eastern region of the country and they include; Bukwo, Butaleja, Bundibugyo, kapchorwa ,Bulambuli,pallisa ,sironko,Busia the other two are from the West and are Kasese and Buliisa
As requested by schools, candidates with outstanding fees balances’ results will not be available on SMS platforms, they will be accessed at school premises after clearing.
A total of 81 suspects were arrested due to examination malpractices , 49 appeared in court and are on bail , 21 jumped police bond and criminal summons have been issued against them ,11 are due in court as their files are still with the DPP for sanctioning.
