An attacker for the Vipers SC and Uganda Cranes, Allan Okello, feels that qualifying for the AFCON is more significant than playing style. He added that he is confident he and his teammates will qualify for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
Following their tenacious 1-0 victory over South Sudan at Mandela National Stadium on Friday, the Uganda Cranes team was met with criticism.
This was due to how the team was set up and how they played the entire game. Okello, who entered the game as a second-half replacement in the Cranes’ victory over South Sudan, stated that qualification is more significant to the team than playing style.
“I think results are more important for us to think about no matter how we play, we need those results. We need to go back to AFCON, I have never been there like many other members on the team. So in our mind, it’s for us to be there. And no matter how we play, I think it’s good for us to qualify.”
“Maybe after the qualification, we shall work on our mistakes.” The former KCCA attacker said.
The Uganda Cranes are hoping to win both of their matches against South Sudan on Tuesday in Juba. Paul Put’s team will only qualify for the continental championship in Morocco the following year if they earn four points from their final three games.
The Cranes made their final appearance in 2019 and were absent from the prior two tournaments in 2021 and 2023. They are unbeaten in the past 4 games.
