In the aftermath of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) draw held in Nairobi, Kenya, Uganda Cranes Head Coach Paul Put expressed his apprehension regarding the formidable opponents awaiting his team in Group C.
Uganda finds itself in Group C alongside Niger, Guinea, and the enigmatic Q1 and Q2 teams, set to emerge from a pool of six competitive nations.
Among these challengers are powerhouses like Algeria, Egypt, and South Africa, adding a layer of unpredictability to the tournament.
Despite the uncertainties surrounding their opponents, Coach Put emphasized the importance of focus and thorough preparation. He acknowledged the tough road ahead, noting, “When you want to play the final stages of CHAN, you must face big teams.” The coach underscored the significance of self-preparation and leveraging the support of fans to overcome the challenges that lie ahead.
Setting goals and overcoming past hurdles
Uganda’s primary objective in the tournament is to break through the group stage barrier, a milestone that has eluded them in their last six attempts. The team is motivated to rewrite their CHAN history by advancing further in the competition.
Originally slated for February 2025, the tournament has been rescheduled to August, providing teams with additional time to gear up for the intense battles ahead.
Group B features a mix of competitive nations, with defending champions Senegal leading a strong contingent in Group D.
As Uganda Cranes brace themselves for the 2024 CHAN, the team faces a challenging path filled with opportunities to showcase their skills and determination. Group C promises thrilling matchups as Uganda aims to make a mark on the tournament stage.
