The Uganda Electoral Commission has unveiled a revised roadmap for the upcoming 2025/2026 general elections, delineating a detailed schedule of activities crucial for a seamless electoral process.
Commencing on August 6, 2024, with constituency demarcation and polling station reorganization, the electoral timeline sets the foundation for essential preparatory tasks that will continue until August 16, 2024.
From September 20, 2024, to October 11, 2024, the revised constituencies, electoral areas, and polling stations were publicly displayed at sub-counties and parishes, ensuring transparency and accessibility for all stakeholders.
Addressing concerns
To address any grievances stemming from the demarcation process, a designated period from September 27, 2024, to October 26, 2024, was allocated for resolving complaints and ensuring the integrity of electoral boundaries.
The voter registration drive, running from January 3, 2025, to January 25, 2025, provides an opportunity for voters to update their information and facilitates the compilation of special interest group registers, promoting inclusivity and representation.
The national voters’ register will be exhibited at polling stations from April 18, 2025, to May 8, 2025, followed by the display of tribunal recommendations from May 9, 2025, to May 19, 2025, enhancing accountability and transparency in the electoral process.
Nominating candidates
Nominations for various committees, including village, sub-county, district, and city special interest groups, as well as local government and parliamentary candidates, are scheduled between June and September 2025, marking crucial milestones in candidate selection.
Presidential candidate nominations are slated for October 2025, marking a significant juncture in the electoral calendar, with the nomination process for SIG representatives for local governments concluding in December 2025.
Polling for presidential, parliamentary, and local government elections, along with special interest group representatives, will commence on January 12, 2026, and conclude on February 9, 2026, marking the culmination of the electoral journey.
Uganda Electoral Commission emphasizes the importance of stakeholders adhering to the outlined schedule and actively engaging in the electoral process to uphold the principles of democracy and ensure a fair and inclusive election.
