Uganda Has A Lot Of Money Only That It Is Being Mishandled- Joel Ssenyonyi

Nakawa west MP Hon Joel Ssenyonyi has said that Uganda has a lot of money but the only problem is those in power who mishandle it.

His comments were in regards to the recent meeting of teachers and President Museveni. The Arts teachers under UNATU had for almost a month held a sit-down strike.

They vowed not to go back to class until they get a salary increment just as government had done for Science teachers. However, after a second meeting with President Museveni, they resolved to suspend the strike.

This was despite not fulfilling their demands. Museveni only promised that they will address these Arts teachers’ demands in future.

According to Ssenyonyi, the money is there but embezzlement is the problem. The MP also wondered why the government is focussing on sciences when its schools don’t have laboratories.

Ssenyonyi also said that luckily for the teachers, they have a space to demonstrate the poor pay. If it was for the security personnel, they would parade them to the Court martial.

He also advised science teachers to wait to celebrate this increment because they might not be implement it.

“This country has money, but the issue is that it’s being misused. Lots of money is being embezzled. What’s funny is they are now focused on sciences, but their schools don’t have science labs and apparatus…” said Ssenyonyi.
