Currently, Nigerian music is everywhere in the world. Some Nigerian artistes like Burna Boy have won Grammy awards, raising their flag very high.
According to Daggy Nyce, most Ugandan artists don’t care about digital platforms. All they focus on is their fans showing up in large numbers for their concerts.
He said there are some musicians that fans would follow everywhere in town but when it comes to their digital platforms, they don’t have numbers.
“You should just say that Ugandan musicians should go digital. Let me give you an example. At this moment, if Bobi Wine stood here at Guvnor, you would see many people within a few seconds. If you asked them to follow him to town, you might even witness a stampede. But, take these people online, and you will find few subscribing to his music online,” he said.
It should be noted that some of Uganda’s most-followed musicians on digital platforms don’t have more than five million followers on their streaming platforms.
Other countries have artists with more than 10 million and most of them have had successful concerts out of their countries.
