Ugandans Up In Arms Over The Influx Of Eritreans And Somalis In Kampala

Several Ugandans have risen up in arms over the continued influx of Eritreans and Somalis into Kampala. This is not the first time that complaints have been made over the continued flocking of these migrants into the nation.

Many Ugandans have now taken to different posts on social media to complain about how this is getting out of hand. Apparently, many of these reside in areas of Bunga, Kabalagala, Gaba, Kansanga amongst other Kampala suburbs.

According to the natives, these people have pushed them out of these areas since they have a lot of money. They always connive with landlords to hike the rent fees. They then go ahead to invite more of their people to fill the houses.

Additionally, these people are also allegedly racist as they do not want to mix, befriend or intermarry with the natives. Ugandans, therefore, do not know how they can coexist with such people.

“It’s unfortunate to see refugees openly competing with Ugandan citizens in various businesses. In areas like Kansanga, Kabalagala, and Ggaba, Eritreans, Ethiopians, Somalis & South Sudanese refugees own salons, shops, run boda boda services, Uber, and restaurants, businesses. These should be reserved for Ugandans,” said one concerned Ugandan.

“They engage in the prostitution business too leaving Ugandan women with no market,” another wildly said.

Uganda has over the years seen the influx of many people from different countries in the region whose territories are war-ravaged. They include those from Rwanda, DR. Congo, South Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea among others.

The locals however want laws that categorically protect them so that they are not trampled on by these refugees. Government has always talked about this issue but has never come out with a standard position.
