Ugandans Walk To Their Homes As Taxis Leave The City Early To Avoid Arrests

Ugandans last night were forced to walk to their homes after transport got really hard. Most of the taxis yesterday left the city so early in fear of being caught by the police. Most motorcycle riders on the other hand are behind bars since their arrest by police last evening. The president in his last speech about transport said motorcyclists should stop working at 6:00 pm. Probably the forces are now implementing this.

Since the swearing-in ceremony is today, the security especially around Kampala is very tight. No wonder, the taxis couldn’t even wait for the hour of curfew to leave the city. Most people were seen online posting how they moved to their homes due to no cars in town. Some Ugandans had to even sleep in town especially women who moved with children.

What does this say about our government?

This only means people are living in fear and not respect for the government. Otherwise, why would they be running to their homes before curfew if nothing is going to happen to them? This is not how it has been, in fact, taxis have been working even after curfew. So the government should check themselves and reconcile with the people so as they can work together.

Meanwhile, even in the absence of taxis, the traffic jam was intense. So, the myths, that it’s taxis that bring jam has been dissolved. Some people said they were on the road from 4:30 pm to 10:00 pm. Speaking of the weather, the traffic jam obviously had to be there. For some reason, rainy days come with heavy traffic jam. Today if anything, people should stay home because it’s going to happen again.
