Uncertainty Surrounding Mpuuga’s Democratic Alliance Raises Concerns

Political analysts are raising concerns about the ambiguity and lack of clarity surrounding Mathias Mpuuga’s Democratic Alliance. The recent announcement of the Civic Group’s intention to evolve into a political party, with a reported 70% progress towards registration by December 6th, has sparked a wave of uncertainty.

However, this narrative was contradicted by Kimaanya Kabonera legislator, Dr. Abed Bwanika, adding to the confusion.

On December 6, 2024, Malibu Gardens witnessed a momentous occasion as Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba, the Nyendo Mukungwe legislator and Parliamentary Commissioner, introduced a new phase in his political journey The Democratic Alliance.

Initially established as a civic platform, Mpuuga outlined plans for its transformation into an electoral platform, supporting candidates at various levels of governance, including the presidency, parliament, mayoral positions, and councilor roles.

Despite the enthusiastic unveiling of The Democratic Alliance, questions lingered about the timeline for its full registration as a political party.

Mpuuga addressed these concerns by emphasizing that the registration process is ongoing and estimated to be at 70% completion. In contrast, Bwanika asserted that there were no intentions to shift the DA’s identity towards a political party, adding another layer of uncertainty to the situation.

Calls for consistency and clarity

Political analysts are urging Mpuuga and his team to provide consistent and transparent communication regarding the registration progress and the organization’s strategic direction.

As the 2026 elections approach, stakeholders are emphasizing the importance of clarity and alignment within the opposition movement.

Israel Mayengo, a seasoned political analyst, highlighted the need for a clear understanding of The Democratic Alliance’s objectives to effectively challenge the ruling NRM party.

In light of Uganda’s persistent governance challenges, Mayengo emphasized the necessity of addressing fundamental issues, such as constitutional reforms and governance structures.

While electoral reforms are crucial, Mayengo suggested a comprehensive review of the constitution to tackle the root causes of governance issues.

He advocated for a focus on resolving long-standing issues like the Buganda question and exploring governance models like rotational leadership and federalism for a more inclusive and sustainable future for Uganda.
