University Council Demands Nawangwe To Account For Convocation Funds The Past Four Years

University Council Demands Nawangwe To Account For Convocation Funds Past Four Years

The University Council has asked for accountability from the Convocation. The Council wants accountability for nearly Shs600 million it remitted to the convocation over the past 4 years.

The Council Chairperson, Lorna Magara sent a letter to the University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabus Nawangwe on January 2.

In the letter, she indicated that the alumni association has not given accountability for the funds it received from the university body.

Therefore, Magara based on this background to ask the VC to submit payment schedules from the university to the convocation.

She said the schedule should be for the specified period of four years. Prof. Nawangwe told reporters he is yet to write to the convocation formally requesting the information.

Dr. Tanga Odoi, the outgoing Convocation chairperson and NRM EC chairperson has said he has not received this letter yet.

This follows a chaos-filled election of new convocation leaders by the alumni on Friday last week. The chaos came as a result of the late delivery of election materials to the venue.

Additionally, the names of some of the leaders were missing from the ballot papers along with many other irregularities.

This caused the elections which were supposed to start at 9:00am to be delayed until 3:00pm. One of the voters even suggested that the elections be postponed to ensure the irregularities are rectified.
