However among the science subjects, Physics recorded a significant improvement in performance compared to previous years. Many students demonstrated a strong understanding of the subject matter, leading to higher scores.
This positive trend could be attributed to effective teaching methods, increased access to learning resources, and enhanced teacher training.
However, Chemistry and Biology did not fare as well. The results indicate a decline in performance, raising concerns about the effectiveness of the curriculum and teaching strategies in these subjects.
Further analysis is needed to identify the root causes and address any gaps in the current approach to teaching these sciences.
Janet Museveni expressed her commitment
The UNEB spokesperson Ms Jennifer Kalule emphasized the importance of science education in Uganda’s development.
She highlighted the need for continuous efforts to improve the quality of teaching and learning in science subjects, as they play a critical role in shaping students’ future career paths in scientific fields.
The Minister of Education and Sports Ms Janet Kataaha Museveni acknowledged the mixed results and expressed her commitment to address the challenges faced in science education.
Plans are underway to review the curriculum, provide additional support to teachers, and enhance practical learning opportunities for students.
It is essential to note that despite the mixed results in science performance, overall, the UCE examination results showcased a commendable performance by students across various subjects.
The achievements and areas for improvement identified in the science subjects should serve as a catalyst for educational stakeholders to work collaboratively towards enhancing science education in Uganda.
