Unveiling Triumph At 11th Kampala Hockey Club Schools Festival

The 11th edition of the Kampala Hockey Club (KHC) Schools Festival, hosted by Naalya SS Bweyogerere, witnessed a spectacle of mazy dribbles, exquisite goals, and thrilling shootout drama.

Gayaza High School emerged victorious in their inaugural championship title, guided by coach Lucky Akello, a prominent KHC forward venturing into coaching for the first time.

Gayaza’s cohesive teamwork shone brightly, with standout player Ingrid Nabayijja showcasing exceptional skill and determination.

Nabayijja, who previously represented Kampala Hockey Club in international tournaments, sealed their triumph by converting the decisive penalty in a tense final shootout against Mount St. Mary’s College Namagunga.

Namagunga’s performance was fueled by Noeline Natabo, crowned the tournament’s most valuable player, showcasing her prowess alongside Nabayijja.

Despite their efforts, goalkeeper Destiny Aturinda of Gayaza emerged as a formidable obstacle, securing victory with a stellar save.

Hosts’ glory in boys’ category

Naalya SS Bweyogerere celebrated a historic win in the boys’ competition, overcoming former champions King’s College Budo in a thrilling penalty shootout.

Led by coach Dulf Musoke and standout players Joseph Kakuru and Joel Kayiwa, the hosts displayed resilience and skill to clinch their first-ever trophy.

Joseph Kakuru’s heroics in the shootout earned him the title of tournament top scorer, while teammate Joel Kayiwa was recognized as the most valuable player.

King’s College Budo found solace in Jonathan Lutimba’s stellar goalkeeping skills, earning him the title of goalkeeper of the tournament amidst a display of remarkable talent and sportsmanship.
