UPDF Soldier Involved In ISO Operative Shooting Turns Self In

A UPDF soldier allegedly shot and fatally wounded a colleague recently in Mawanyi, Bwebajja Ward, Kajjansi Town Council, Wakiso District on March 23.

However, as events unfolded, he recently turned himself in to the police.

The soldier had been deployed as a bodyguard to a former commissioner of Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC). He went on the run after shooting the boyfriend to his principal according to detectives.

Apparently, the scuffle happened when the bodyguard tried to access the bedroom of the former commissioner (female).

The woman had reportedly locked herself in after a misunderstanding with her boyfriend. The boyfriend then tried to forcefully enter the room by breaking down the door, forcing the soldier to intervene.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson said the soldier turned himself in and is in military custody at Makindye Military Barracks.

“The bodyguard handed himself to the police, and we recorded his statement, where he admits to shooting the ISO operative. We handed him over to the Military police, who detained him,” he said.

Mr Onyango further said the suspect’s file was almost complete and ready to forward to the Resident State Attorney for sanctioning.

From the time he got shot, the victim has since been admitted to the ICU at International Hospital Kampala.
