UPDF Soldier Killed In Bar Fight

Budaka Police in the Eastern Region of Uganda are investigating circumstances under which a UPDF soldier was murdered. The incident allegedly happened during a fight in the bar.

The deceased soldier has been identified as Private Martin Mbayo, 23. He had been on pass leave at the time of his untimely demise. Martin Mbayo hailed from Bulomi village, Nanjala Parish, Kameruka Sub-County in Budaka District.

The Bukedi North Regional police spokesperson SP Immaculate Alaso Emily said the incident happened on July 18th, 2023.

Private Mbayo visited a bar belonging to Robert Tabiruka, located in Nabugalo Trading Center. An argument allegedly erupted between the soldier and the bar owner, leading to the tragic consequences.

Following the scuffle between the two, the deceased sustained injuries and they rushed him to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital. He got a transfer to Mulago National Referral Hospital but unfortunately died in Iganga before they made it there.

The relatives of the deceased reportedly informed authorities at Bugema Barracks. They rushed to give a helping hand but fell short at saving Private Mbayo’s life.

In similar news by NEWSLEXPOINT.com, a UPDF soldier allegedly shot and fatally wounded a colleague recently in Mawanyi, Bwebajja Ward, Kajjansi Town Council, Wakiso District on March 23.

However, as events unfolded, he recently turned himself in to the police. The soldier had been deployed as a bodyguard to a former commissioner of Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC). He went on the run after shooting the boyfriend to his principal according to detectives.
