AUKUS is a newly formed partnership between the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, aimed at enhancing their cooperation in the areas of defense and security, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region.
The announcement of AUKUS has raised concerns among some of the United States’ allies, including New Zealand, which has a long-standing policy of being a nuclear-free zone.
In response to these concerns, the United States has clarified that the AUKUS partnership is not exclusive and that other countries, including New Zealand, are welcome to engage with the alliance if they wish to do so.
However, it remains to be seen whether New Zealand will choose to participate in the AUKUS alliance, given its concerns about nuclear weapons.
