US Election 2024: Who’s Showcasing Strong Performance So Far?

US Election 2024: It was hoped by many on both sides that a dramatic shift in voter preferences would occur at the eleventh hour. However, as the polls closed in key East Coast battleground states and votes were swiftly counted, it became apparent that such hopes were unfounded.

The initial landscape of this significant presidential race is gradually taking shape, hinting at another closely contested election.

In Georgia and North Carolina, pivotal states for Donald Trump, the former president is showcasing a strong performance in the traditional rural areas, surpassing his 2020 results.

Kamala Harris is keeping pace with Joe Biden’s numbers in urban and suburban counties, yet she has not shown notable improvements thus far.

Though these margins are subject to change, narrow victories for Trump in Georgia and North Carolina would refocus attention on the Democratic stronghold states bordering the Great Lakes, known as the “Blue Wall.” The scenario of a decisive victory for Harris on election night seems unlikely.

Crucial path through Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania

In the absence of victories in Georgia and North Carolina, Harris’s best – and perhaps sole – route to the White House lies through Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Notably, the final outcome in Pennsylvania may remain uncertain for days to come.

Recent exit polls are illuminating the gender gap in this election, with a majority of women supporting Kamala Harris while men are leaning towards Donald Trump.

Surprisingly, the 54% of women backing Harris falls short of the 57% who supported Joe Biden in 2020. Speculation about a profound political schism between genders may have been premature, as exit poll data tends to evolve over time.

However, any decline in support from women compared to the previous US election would raise concerns for the Harris campaign.

A striking observation at this juncture is the surge in voter turnout, nearing or possibly surpassing the record-high level of 65.9% set in 2020.

Both Trump and Harris have emphasized the high stakes of this election, and the American public seems to have responded to that urgency. As more results unfold, this analysis will be updated to reflect the evolving electoral landscape.
