US Had Positive Talks With Putin Over Ukraine War – Trump Says

US President Donald Trump praised the recent discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the US-proposed ceasefire deal in Ukraine as positive and fruitful.

The meeting between Putin and US envoy Steve Witkoff in Moscow was met with cautious optimism by both sides. Trump expressed hope that these talks could potentially bring an end to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky raised concerns about Putin’s intentions, accusing him of prolonging the negotiations to perpetuate the war.

Sir Keir Starmer emphasized the need for serious engagement in ceasefire discussions and criticized Putin’s tactics.

While Ukraine accepted the US-proposed ceasefire deal, Russia has yet to agree. Putin acknowledged the importance of a ceasefire but outlined challenging conditions for peace, drawing criticism from Zelensky.

The Ukrainian leader expressed frustration with what he perceived as Russian attempts to derail diplomatic efforts.

Calls for diplomatic action and peacekeeping efforts

UK PM Sir Keir advocated for monitoring and enforcing a potential ceasefire to ensure lasting peace. He planned to convene a coalition of leaders to support peacekeeping initiatives and deter future aggression.

Zelensky urged influential parties, particularly the United States, to take decisive action to end the conflict.

The White House expressed optimism about the progress towards peace and commended the productive discussions between Putin and Witkoff.

Trump emphasized the need to pressure Russia to act responsibly and spare the lives of Ukrainian troops. International leaders, including G7 members, supported the US ceasefire proposal and called for Russian cooperation in achieving peace.

Contradictory reports emerged regarding the situation in Kursk, with Putin claiming Ukrainian troops were isolated while Ukraine’s armed forces denied encirclement.

The focus shifted to ensuring the safety and dignity of Ukrainian soldiers amidst escalating tensions. G7 members underscored the importance of Russian response to the ceasefire proposal to move towards resolution.
