Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has raised alarms about the perceived silence from the United States following recent Russian assaults. He contends that this lack of outspoken opposition is emboldening President Vladimir Putin, particularly in the wake of Russia’s substantial aerial offensive.
The most recent Russian assault entailed the launch of 367 drones and missiles, resulting in the highest casualties in a single night since Putin launched the full-scale invasion in 2022.
Regrettably, a minimum of 12 individuals, including three children, perished, and numerous others sustained injuries in widespread attacks across Ukraine. These strikes occurred subsequent to a severe assault on the capital city of Kyiv.
Meanwhile Ukraine’s Air Force disclosed that Russia conducted strikes using 298 drones and 69 cruise and ballistic missiles.
Despite endeavors to repel the attacks, the situation remains critical, with various regions in Ukraine impacted. President Zelensky underscored the pressing need for robust international pressure on Russia to cease its ruthless campaign.
Critique of American response
President Zelensky criticized the perceived lack of action from the United States and other nations amidst the escalating conflict.
He emphasized that silence only strengthens Putin further, highlighting the imperative for a more decisive stance from the global community.
Initiatives to facilitate peace negotiations and prisoner exchanges are ongoing, with modest progress noted. Despite recent swaps of prisoners and diplomatic dialogues, achieving a substantive ceasefire remains elusive.
The recent conversation between former US President Donald Trump and President Putin aimed to kickstart negotiations but has yet to yield substantial outcomes.
The unrelenting assaults by Russia, combined with the sluggish pace of peace negotiations, have fostered a challenging environment for securing a ceasefire.
Ukraine and its allies, including the US, are grappling with strategies to effectively address the escalating conflict and foster a cessation of hostilities.
