Victoria University led by Dr. Lawrence Muganga has offered the son of the late singer Evelyn Lagu a scholarship at the institution. They said if he doesn’t have funds to continue with education.
Evelyn Lagu left only one son upon her death earlier this week. She got sick when the son had just completed form six and he couldn’t go on with the education. Being the only child, he dedicated his time to look after his mother.
This involved making certain sacrifices like not going to school for a while. The problem wasn’t only about the sickness but also the finances as well. This is because Evelyn Lagu wasn’t working and she was spending so much on her sickness.
Now that she is gone, the son Fred is going to start life afresh which involves going back to school if he wants to.
According to Dr. Muganga, the Victoria University vice chancellor, Evelyn Lagu’s son doesn’t need to worry about paying tuition. Like he has helped several other children, he promised to also take on her son to pursue a course of his choice.
“It is very sad that the entertainment industry and Uganda as a whole lost such a talented lady like Evelyn Lagu. We are aware she left a son behind and if he is willing to continue to school, I am going to offer him a bursary at Victoria University,” Dr. Muganga said.
