Volodymyr Zelensky Condemns ‘Inhumane’ Christmas Day Attack

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemns Russia’s deliberate assault on his country’s energy infrastructure on Christmas Day. The air force reported intercepting 184 missiles and drones, with some causing casualties. Moscow claimed success in achieving its goals.

The attack resulted in widespread power outages, affecting even the capital Kyiv, where residents sought refuge in metro stations.

Russia’s military confirmed a significant strike on critical energy facilities, marking the 13th attack on Ukraine’s energy sector this year.

US President Joe Biden denounced the attack as an attempt to deprive Ukrainians of essential services during winter.

Amid escalating tensions, the US pledged to continue supporting Ukraine with weapon deliveries.

President Volodymyr Zelensky previously highlighted that Russian bombings had already destroyed 80% of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Following the recent attacks, Zelensky emphasized the deliberate timing of the assault and vowed to restore power promptly.

In Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, half a million residents faced dire conditions without essential services in freezing temperatures. Across the country, air raid alarms startled citizens, prompting sheltering as the attacks unfolded.

Amid the chaos, Ukrainians displayed courage and determination. Despite the disruptions, residents like Oleksandra remained steadfast in celebrating Christmas with loved ones once safety permitted, showcasing the unwavering spirit of the Ukrainian people.

The attacks drew condemnation from neighboring countries like Moldova and Romania, highlighting the regional implications of the conflict. Moldova reported a missile passing through its airspace, underscoring the broader security concerns posed by the escalating tensions.
