Voter Turn Up Poor As Nation Votes For Mayors, Chairpersons And Councilors

The voter turn up this time round has been noted as poor as the nation votes for mayors, chairpersons and councilors. Some people have put it on the disappointment during the presidential elections. It is alleged that since some people voted for candidates who didn’t go through, they were discouraged. They have now decided to shun all the other remaining elections so that they don’t get disappointed.

Most of the polling stations are empty with only polling officers on their phones. In areas of Bukomasimbi, it has even reached an extent of just begging voters to first cast their votes before going to their gardens. This was not the case on 14th because voters showed up by 7:00am to case their votes.

Probably as the day goes by, voters will increase because unlike the last elections, this time round electoral commission didn’t declare today a public holiday. This could also be the reason why voter turn up is poor. Many are going to work as it is the only thing that seems to make sense right now. Going forward, the EC should probably treat all elections with the same importance. These leaders are also equally significant in the development of the country.

Meanwhile, the EC needs to do more sensitization on why people should participate in all voting activities. Otherwise, this is the trend every year of elections.
However much as voter turn up is poor, in some areas voting materials arrived late. In other areas, the EC mixed up voting materials which caused delay.
