As she declared her wealth, the VP said she is happy to declare her assets according to Articles 233 (2) and 234 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda.
Leaders’ declaration of assets is also contained in the Section 4 of the Leadership Code Act, 2021. It requires all government civil servants and political leaders from LC III to declare their wealth.
Following her declaration, VP Alupo also called upon all the other public officials to do the same within the timeline set by the IGG.
Hon Betty Namisango Kamya, the IGG said government leaders have been accorded up to March 31st to declare their wealth. Apparently, the Inspectorate of Government recently revealed that it is waiting for up to 34,000 wealth declarations.
The declaration started on 1st March, 2023 and is expected to run until the end of this very month. The Inspectorate in 2021 also recorded 25,000 declarations from 312 institutions.
Consequently, leaders who will fail to beat the deadline shall be referred to the Leadership Code Tribunal.
It is mandated to hear and adjudicate breaches by leaders and public officers filed by the Inspectorate under the Leadership Code Act.
