However, after meeting the president, many people have concluded that Mao is going to join NRM.
“As NUP, we are vindicated because it’s clear why Mao has been attacking us. I’m glad he has now taken a stand, it’s important for a leader not to be lukewarm. We wish him well where he has gone.”
Ssenyonyi says Mao ceased to be a weighty opposition figure a long time ago. With all this though, he says, there can not be a vacuum just because Mao is seemingly out.
“Mao ceased to be a weighty opposition figure a long time ago. Even if Ugandans woke up and all of us opposition leaders have crossed to NRM, it doesn’t matter because the challenges of Uganda remain. Ugandans will form new leadership among themselves. When an opposition leader crosses to NRM, there can be a dent, but there can never be a vacuum.”
Meanwhile, some members of the public say it’s easy predicting politics in Uganda and surely what Mao did, every one expected.
“Everything in UG is predictable. it all started with a tweet from the first son commending Mao as a good presidential man, boom Mao then started war against Nup. As a Ugandan I knew where it was coming from and going to,” a one Silas Asiki reacted.
