Apparently, they need replacements as soon as possible because these have worked since 2007. Vincent Bagiire, the permanent secretary of the ministry told the committee as he appeared before them to present the foreign Affairs budget.
“We have written to the Ministry of Finance about this. There was a situation where we were transporting a guest and the car broke down. It was an embarrassment for our VIP. This is not business as usual. Foreign Affairs needs its fleet to take care of dignitaries,” Bagiire said.
Richard Lumu (DP, Mityana County South) wondered why such a full ministry doesn’t have its own fleet.
According to him, they should have their own fleet since they are responsible for the dignitaries that the country hosts.
“Why don’t we budget that the ministry of Foreign Affairs acquires its fleet since they are the ones that manage these dignitaries?” Lumu said.
Meanwhile, the Amuru Woman MP, Lucy Akello, inquired how long the ministry has been raising the issue at hand. This apparently will show the seriousness of the matter.
“As you continuously use these vehicles, do you send complaints to the ministry of Works and Transport saying this is long overdue so that we also know that you have taken it very seriously?” Akello asked.
Well, if it is as it is being said, then surely, something should be done because 2007 is a long time ago for a full ministry to have old vehicles.
