The Electoral Commission chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama has said in a statement that they have extended the compilation of the village women residents register.
They had scheduled the exercise to end today but the number is apparently so high. And they wouldn’t want to leave out a number of people. They have therefore extended it to Friday 17th June 2022. He says though, there will not be any other extension.
“This exercise will continue to be conducted at registration centres in each village/cell throughout Uganda. It’s starting from 8:00am to 6:00pm, throughout the extended period. Please note that the purpose of this extension is to provide an opportunity for all eligible women who have not yet registered to do so,” he said.
This compilation exercise started on Friday June 10, 2022. The plan was to have it end by June 13, 2022.
Due to requests from key stakeholders in the electoral process, the Electoral Commission has found it necessary to take a decision to extend this exercise.
Those who are registering need the following particulars to the village election officials: names, national identity number or application id number, age, gender, and village of residence.
Byabakama added that this exercise is free of charge. After Friday though there will not be any other day of registration for this cause.
