Musician Alexander Bagonza aka A Pass has come out to express his displeasure at the state of the current music industry. The Dididada singer in fact said that the industry needs to be protected from the current bogus music being released.
He took to his social media pages to express his disbelief at the current songs that are released. He said that there is a need for gatekeeping the music industry due to the too much ‘stupid’ music out there.
Additionally, he said that anything funny and stupid is a hit song now. The singer wondered where the standards went.
Furthermore, he pointed out that back in the day, one had to have something good to be on TV and radio. However, nowadays the standard dropped as all one needs is to just go viral and they are stars.
“We need a bit of gatekeeping in the Ugandan music industry, too much stupid music out here. Anything funny and stupid is now a song. What is the standard? Back then you had to have something good to be on radio or TV but nowadays all you need is to be viral & boom,” he tweeted.
Songs such as Hozaambee, Enkudi are the top charting songs in the country right now. They are on everyone’s lips and everyone has been jumping on these songs.
The trend started from TikTok churning out these artists and it’s still doing so. Musicians on the other hand such as Joshua Baraka, A Pass himself who have quality music that they have really invested in haven’t seen the return of their songs.
Although TikTok has given a cheap platform to upcoming singers, it has also diluted the industry.
