“We Shall Put Down Our Tools”, MUBS Lecturers Threaten

Makerere University Business School/ MUBS lecturers have promised to put down their tools if they do not receive their salary arrears as soon as possible.

The chair person MUBS Academic staff Association, Brian Muyomba said they will have a sit down strike. This will entail not invigilating of papers and even marking until they are thought about.

The finalists are expected to start exams on 25th November 2020. This is just a week away which means the government has little time to think about this. They criticized the National Resistance Movement government for failing to fulfill their promises.

Apparently, the NRM government promised to increase salaries at the beginning of this academic year which they haven’t done.

The most disappointing thing according to these lecturers is that in NRM manifesto, they are bragging about increasing salaries for lecturers. They have failed to do to do this for ages. There are also claims that other public university lecturers are going to join this site down strike.

This simply means that students will not be able to sit for their final examinations in time if lecturers go ahead with this.

A lot of time has already been wasted academically due to Covid-19. The truth of the matter is that it would be unfair for students to waste more time. First of all, students paid fully before the school allowed them to report.

This means they are qualified to access the full academic process. It is unrealistic for them not to sit for their finals just because the University administration doesn’t think about lecturers.
