The President of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has responded to the World Bank after it cut off all financial assistance that was scheduled to flow into the country.
The World Bank revealed that the ‘draconian LGBTQ law‘ signed by the Ugandan government was the cause.
It should be noted that the government of Uganda a few months ago passed a very strict law against LGBTQ. This was to safeguard local cultures and honor most people’s wishes.
However, this was not taken lightly by the west and some of the entities they control. Threats since then have been the order of the day and now they have started to pass.
Museveni however through his social media said that he’s unfazed by this move. In the address, the President said that things are moving well despite corruption of some public servants.
According to the President, Uganda will develop with or without loans. The President further added that it’s unfortunate that the World Bank alongside other actors is trying to coerce Uganda to desert her values.
Apparently, there isn’t pressure needed to solve Ugandans’ problems. This is because they are the problems of Ugandans and no one else.
“I want to inform everybody, starting with Ugandans, that Uganda will develop with or without loans. It is, therefore, unfortunate that the World Bank and other actors dare to want to coerce us into abandoning our faith, culture, principles and sovereignty, using money. They really underestimate all Africans. We do not need pressure from anybody to know how to solve societal problems. They are our problems.” he wrote.
Meanwhile, the President added that talks continue between Uganda and the World Bank to avoid antagonizing their relationship.
