Alimpa an upcoming artist borrowed some lyrics from the duo’s African Time song. He then did his Sean Don song but had no consent from Goodlyf. Alimpa’s song almost dates two years back.
It has however become famous now due to the influence of Tiktok which has seen it get maximum airplay on both TV’s and radio stations.
Some of the duo’s fans have been suggesting that they sue Alimpa for copyright infringement. One of the people to suggest this was former NBS journalist, Mordechai Muriisa. Muriisa says that he agrees Alimpa popularized the song but what he did was wrong. He should therefore face the law.
However, the advice was not going to be taken by Weasel who said that the boy should be left alone to make ends meet. He however thanked the journalist for the concern.
NTV journalist Walter Mwesigye however said that although he appreciates Weasel’s move to let Alimpa shine, he should sit him down and tell him that what he did was wrong.
Walter reminded Weasel that even them to become famous, they did their homework and didn’t copy Leone Island’s songs yet they were in the crew.
Plagiarism is a common practice in the entertainment industry in Uganda. This is because of the lack of strong copyright laws. This is one of the things that entertainers have been crying to the government to put into practice but in vain.
