“Naye Banange Omwana Kibalama, Oba Anwya Biki,” Barbie posted loosely meaning “What does Kibalama really drink?”
Kibalama and others affiliates to him earlier this week opened up new offices belonging to NUP in Kabowa. This, therefore, left two factions of the party, one in Kamwokya and another in Kabowa.
While speaking to NBS TV, the spokesperson of the Kabowa faction, Gideon Tugume, said that they had decided to regain their party back from Bobi Wine.
Furthermore, Tugume revealed that Bobi Wine had dubiously acquired the party leadership. Tugume said that Bobi Wine duped his uncle who sold him the party yet he had no authority since he was just the acting president.
Tugume also revealed that they suspended Kibalama and the secretary-general until further notice. They apparently set up a committee to investigate how Bobi Wine acquired the party.
“A committee of 11 people was set up to investigate the circumstances under which Kyagulanyi acquired the National Unity Platform. He will soon be summoned. In the meantime, Kibalama and Kagombe are on suspension.
Kibalama was the acting head of the party, and by his mandate as acting, he had no capacity to transfer the leadership to another person.
As long as the party is concerned, that memorandum of understanding is illegal. Kyagulanyi came and duped his uncle Kibalama. All those elected on the NUP ticket have to come to the headquarters in Kabowa for a ‘blessing’,” Tugume said.
However, a letter released by the Electoral Commission quashed the group’s hopes of regaining the party. They told them that they legally sold off the party to Bobi Wine and his Kamwokya group and therefore have no claim over it.
Kibalama meanwhile claims that Bobi Wine breached the Memorandum of understanding. It is for this reason that he wants the party back.
