“What’s Happening In Kenya Can’t Happen In Uganda” – Min Haruna Kasolo

The Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development in Uganda Hon Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune has claimed that what’s happening in Kenya is something that can never happen in Uganda.

The Minister while on a political talk show bragged that the Ugandan government has put in place different ventures for the people, especially the youth.

He mentioned the likes of the Parish Development Model (PDM). According to the Minister, such projects help the people to work for themselves.

“What’s happening in Kenya can’t happen in Uganda. In Uganda, we have programs that bring people together, such as PDM, where people receive funds to develop themselves,” the Minister said.

His submission was supported by Frank Gashumba who also argued that the incidents in Kenya can’t happen in its East African counterpart.

According to Gashumba, “Ugandans have unimaginable peace. They drink alcohol from Munyonyo to Bulindo and from Kisoro to Arua. Some Ugandans sleep in bars, churches & shrines. During the day, they mind their own business. Such people cannot organize protests like Kenyans.”

However, the Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze disagreed with her fellow panelists. She said that there isn’t any government that this generation can’t topple. This is because they have the existence of social media. Besides, they don’t need a leader to rally them.

It should be noted that protests broke out in Kenya a few days ago. This is after citizens took to the streets in large numbers in different parts of the country to reject the proposed Financial Bill.

Citizens yesterday attacked the Kenyan Parliament and vandalized several properties. The legislators had to take cover as they passed the bill despite these protests.

The Kenyan President addressed the nation yesterday and lambasted what he called opportunistic criminal tendencies in the ongoing strikes.
