Mostly because those leaving are from notable media companies.
This year alone, 6 journalists have left, three from NTV and three others from NBS. These are the leading stations currently but if their workers are now opting for other careers then something must be wrong.
Some have put it on the low salary earnings received by journalists. There have been a number of strikes in a number of media companies because workers have had to go without pay for some good months.
This has been specifically taking place in media companies that are young and just starting their journey. However, even some media houses that have been around for a while experience this same problem.
Besides the low salary issue, some simply left notable media houses to start their personal businesses. For example Daniel Lutaaya runs his private business alongside an online media publication.
Mordecai Muriisa opted to go settle in the USA to also start his own career. Perhaps, after serving in another media company for some time, it’s just enough for them to go start on something new.
However, where does this leave the media? What does it say about our media in Uganda? It’s now rare for someone to grow old in this career.
This means they have to constantly train journalists without keeping the experience of the old which could do the industry good.
