Why Do Leaders From Acholi Subregion Die Young?- Hon Odonga Otto

Former Aruu County MP, Hon Odonga Otto has come out to question why government leaders from Acholi subregion die young.

Otto said that this is not only a concern of his but also the entire region. He went ahead to list some of those that have perished at such a young age.

These included Gen Paul Lokech who died aged 55, Gen Oketa Julius (60), Col Ochora Walter (54) and the most recent being the Rt Hon Speaker of Parliament Hon Jacob Oulanyah who passed away aged 56.

According to Ondonga Otto, these individuals’ loyalty to the government cannot be questioned. This, therefore, rules out foul play in their deaths.

He added that death in his society is explained beyond modern science which leaves him puzzled. The former MP further said that death is natural and has been occurring everywhere.

However, as a region, they need to check their responses to death in such a modern era.

“Concerns in Acholi is that why key Gov’t officials die young: Gen.Oketa Julius, Col.Ochora Walter, Gen.Paul Lokech and now Speaker Oulanyah Jacob. These individuals’ loyalty to the regime is not an issue. Yet in our societies death has to be explained beyond modern science. I get lost.

People die all over the country we recently lost Mutebile, Gen Pecos Kutesa, Gen.Kasirye Gwanga, Fr Lokodo. I think we need to check our traditional response to death in this modern era. May their souls rest in Peace,” Hon Odonga Otto said.

It’s not only the MP with such itching blanks in his head, but the entire country and the Acholi subregion, in particular, are also all puzzled by these deaths.

Postmortems however have always shown that these individuals die from natural deaths. This therefore officially rules out foul play but it doesn’t mean there wasn’t any.

The late Speaker’s father Mr. Nathan Okori yesterday while talking to Daily Monitor said they killed his son.

He said that no post-mortem would change his already made-up mind in regards to his death. Okori added that his son’s sickness became visibly clear after they elected him Speaker of Parliament in May 2021.
