We Don’t Just Need A Lawyer As A Speaker, We Need Someone Empathetic, Semujju Nganda

Hon. Ssemujju Nganda has said as parliament is looking forward to voting another speaker, it should not just be based on them being lawyers.

He says they should vote for someone who is empathetic, someone who is going to serve the people.

“We don’t just need a lawyer to be the Speaker. We need someone who is empathetic and will take care of the MPs. And we need to arrive at a consensus candidate to ensure harmony in Parliament.”

He says if NRM doesn’t organize themselves, he will also stand for the speakership position.

“I hope we have a discussion with NRM to arrive at who becomes the Speaker of Parliament, so we don’t have a chaotic experience like we did last time. If they don’t accept, then I will offer myself for this position.”

Semujju says NRM should leave the Deputy Speaker position to the opposition because he predicts that Among will hold the flag for NRM.

“I see the Deputy Speaker of Parliament becoming the NRM flag bearer going by their party practice. If NRM is well mannered, they can take the Speakership position and allow the opposition to take the Deputy Speaker of Parliament position.”

It should be remembered that Semujju Nganda took part in the speakership race in May 2021. Unfortunately, he lost with only 35 votes in the bag.
