Proof of this is the Radio and Weasel duo. These two were on top of their game, if not the best group we have had in the country. However, since the death of Radio, Weasel has never recovered. It has been hard for him to work on his solo career because people have failed to embrace him as a person. The sound of Radio and Weasel attracted many people, not just Weasel as a person.
The effort you put into a solo career is not the same as that in a group. When it comes to groups, it’s more of a collective effort. You have to do everything yourself. You will sing the lead vocals and harmonies. Also, you will work around the clock to promote the song. It is too much but still achievable if you’re dedicated.
The question is, do you have to start in a group?
If you can’t keep up with a group, then don’t start in a group. Much as most of the time it’s the port through which one can start a career, it works only for a few. You may not be as lucky as Destinys’ Child group where everyone basically made it in a solo career after they parted. Yes, starting alone is hectic, costly, and needs a lot of time before you’re known but it works out with determination. We have a lot of examples for that.
This is in no way trying to de-campaign groups and bands but the consistency is all that matters. The truth is all of us can agree that it is almost impossible to recover after leaving a music group or band.
