Why We Need To Talk To The Boy Child About Early Marriage

Most of the time, if not all time, no one talks to the boy child about early marriage. Don’t they need it? How come everyone is concentrating on the girl child as if she gets pregnant on her own. When something involves two people and you only deal with one party, then you have done nothing. At the end of the day, the one you didn’t talk to will affect the other.

It’s high time, the boys got engaged in these talks too. Clearly, they need them because most of the times they make the first moves on the girls. Much as it is in the girl’s choice to say yes or no, sometimes there is really nothing much to do. Boys should be trained to wait until they are ready to date someone. Most times if they don’t approach the girl, nothing goes down.

It is so absurd how all institutions have prioritised talking to the girl child. Obviously, there is some change but it would be more effective if this was equally executed. The boy child needs advise too. The boy child needs someone to talk to as well. Sometimes things are hard for him. He needs guidance on all issues of life because he is a child too.

We are building a very bad system in a boy to become a man of steel which is wrong. Just like the girl child, the boy child is vulnerable as well. Time is going to come when suicides may increase because its apparently wrong for the boy child to speak up. Let us provide an equal platform to both sexes. It’s not only the girl child who needs saving from the boy child, it the other way round as well.
