William Ruto Declares Kenya Visa-free For All Visitors

Kenyan President William Ruto has declared that Kenya will be visa-free for all foreign visitors starting January 2024. This makes the end of visa requirements for foreigners.

Ruto said that his government had abolished visa requirements on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. This was during his national address at the 60th Jamhuri Day National Celebrations held at Uhuru Gardens in the capital Nairobi.

President William Ruto had earlier hinted about abolishing visas for African countries. However, he has opened the country’s door wider to accommodate even non-African visitors. This will take effect in January 2024.

“It is with great pleasure, as President of this extraordinary country, to make a historic announcement of the decision of the Government of Kenya. Beginning January 2024, Kenya will be a visa-free country,” he said.

Ruto said Kenya is the home of humanity – a scientific fact that fills Kenyans with pride and underscores Kenya’s rich heritage. He says it is because of this kind of humanity that he has opened Kenya for all.

“It shall no longer be necessary for any person from any corner of the globe to carry the burden of applying for a visa to come to Kenya. To echo the call of the Turkana people to the world. Kenya has a simple message to humanity; welcome Home! This is why the Government has abolished the requirement of visas for all our visitors,” he said.

However, all those who intend to travel to Kenya will have to be verified through a digital platform that the country’s ICT team has developed and issued wi

th electronic travel authorization.

“To implement this new policy, we have developed a digital platform to ensure that all travelers to Kenya are identified in advance on an electronic platform. All travelers will obtain electronic travel authorization,” he said.

The development is evident of Kenya’s hospitality and open-door policy and will enable her to embrace technological advancements.
