Woman forced to drink acid by her in laws over dowry debt

The family of Rapa Rani Pandit says that the 23 year old Bagladeshi woman was attacked by her in-laws because her parents couldn’t pay the dowry which had been agreed upon to her marriage to Ratan Pandit, there after, acid came in.

Rapa Rani Pandit was attacked by her in laws and reports say that she was allegedly poured acid in her throat forcefully by her husband’s father and he also forced her to gulp it into her mouth due to failure by her parents of not paying dowry.

She is now being cared of in the Dhaka Medical Hospital with severe internal injuries and scars.

Doctors say they can’ tell whether she will survive because most of the injuries are internal. She is unable to eat or drink expected to be kept on a saline drip for at least the next two weeks.

The awkward action done by Pandit’s father has resulted into campaigner’s protesting on Dhaka street to demand justice for the young woman on Tuesday.

Today, the Acid Survivors Foundation in Bangladesh

which has been working to eliminate acid violence for almost a decade, formed a human chain in Dhaka to demand those involved in the attack to be arrested and punished.

Police has arrested Rabindra Pandit on suspicion of carrying out the attack.
