The government of Mali, on March 30, flew a 25-year-old Halima Cisse out to Morocco so that she could get better medical attention. Many initially believed that she carried septuplets in her womb.
To everyone’s surprise, however, she had nonuplets; that is true, she had nine babies and delivered all of them successfully.
She finally delivered the babies on Tuesday and all of them are said to be doing well, according to the Mali government.
Moroccan health ministry spokesperson Rachid Koudhari said he had no idea such a multiple birth took place in one of the country’s hospitals. But a statement released by the ministry said Cisse had given birth to five girls and four boys by Caesarean section.
‘’The mother and the babies are doing well so far,’’ Mali’s health minister Fanta Siby told reporters.
Siby also said the information on the situation came from the Malian doctor who accompanied Cisse to Morocco. She further told reporters that the mother of nine is due to return home in several weeks. This is because she has to first heal from the C-section type of delivery before she can be discharged.
Concerns about Cisse’s health have risen among many doctors on top of the skepticism on the survival of the babies.
Siby offered a congratulatory message to the medical teams of Mali and Morocco. She said their professionalism is at the origin of the happy outcome of this pregnancy.
