World teachers day can only make sense when the celebrated actually feel celebrated. The truth of the matter is that, most times the day is more celebrated than the teachers themselves.
This year’s celebration has found when most teachers are not even in the profession anymore. Since schools were closed in March, most teachers have never received even a penny from their schools, especially private school teachers. This forced most of them to engage in other businesses to make a living for themselves.
The government of Uganda we can’t say has done much about this situation to help out the teachers. The ministry of Education is obviously not innocent too. Six months without pay and now schools are going to be opened but teachers are expected to do their work.
Is it fair? Their salary is not that much but even the way its paid is really ugly. Are we really appreciative?
You can say that teaching is one of those professions that is so despised and left behind. Shockingly its one of the most important professions world wide because we are what we are because some one out there taught us.
Isn’t it time for the government to put the teachers at the right hand of the economy as well so that we can also boast our education system.
Delivery will always be much better when the deliverer is happy.
