Last year when schools opened for a while, there was a complaint that they intentionally kept the Covid-19 cases a secret. Apparently, they feared being closed while other schools remained in operation.
Dr. Joyce Moriku Kaducu, State Minister for Primary Education sent a stern warning to schools. She was launching the school-based surveillance system that will be used to track Covid-19 cases.
In this system, data about schools will be linked with respective health teams at the district level using digital and hard copy tools to prevent and manage COVID-19 outbreaks.
Kaducu says they have health teams that are alert and are ready to help schools in any way they should. Part of what they are going to do is to carry out rapid testing kits.
“All health teams are alert, and we are mapping the schools to the nearest health centers where we have rapid testing kits.”
Covid-19 is no longer as scary as it was the first time we heard of it. There should therefore be no reason why schools should fear declaring cases if found.
This makes treatment even easier because health workers know what to do now more than ever.
