40 NRM Lawyers To Face Off With 25 NUP Lawyers In Court

President Museveni has arraigned 40 NRM lawyers to face off with 25 NUP lawyers in court. This comes after Bobi Wine through his lawyers petitioned a case against the elections that saw NRM’s Yoweri Kaguta Museveni emerge as a winner. This case was taken to court on Monday by NUP party. They argue that all circumstances that surrounded the elections were not in their favor at all.

National Unity Platform listed 26 grounds on which this case was built. For instance, intimidation of their agents, pre-ticked ballot papers, ballot stuffing among others. The lawyers also insist they have evidence to prove this to the court.

Apparently, they have videos, photos to prove their case. All they want is for the court to overturn the declaration by EC that Museveni won.

Consequently, the NRM party decided to prepare for this by lining up 40 lawyers to work on this case. The lawyers are very confident that they have got this case in their hands.

The party legal director, Oscar Kihika is leading the team. According to him, the case is against the petitioners because most of their evidence is hearsay.

“It would be silly not to prepare for an election petition. You start preparing early so that when the petitions come, you are prepared. I feel sorry for the petitioners, it is only 20% of the evidence collected that is useful, the rest is hearsay,” Kihika said.

All our eyes will be on this case to see how NUP lawyers manage to handle the NRM’s legal team of 40.
