Children’s department rescued the nursery school girl and placed her on treatment at Tophill Hospital in Eldoret.
Children’s coordinator in Bahati sub-County Waithaka Salome said the young girl was beaten over failure to wash clothes of her 2-year-old brother and for eating her stepmother ’s silverfish (mena) without permission.
Ms Waithaka said the minor informed them that her father and stepmother has been abusing her.
The punishments have resulted into a clot on the left side of her brain, including evident injuries on the hands, head, buttocks, face and neck.
Her parents would occasionally deny her food, something that forced her to beg and search for food in waste bins.
‘The minor told us that her dad would intentionally burn her with cigarette butts, claiming that she is not disciplined,’ official said.
According to the report drafted at Bahati Police Station under OB08/05/06/2020, the father was apprehended and charged with assault and negligence. He was jailed for six months.
The minor was put in a children’s home and later taken for medical treatment and counseling as he was physically injured.
But fourteen days ago, they realized that she could move slowly and fall when walking at times.
She was referred at Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital where experts discovered that she was having problems with her eyes.
After realizing that she was touching surfaces whilst walking, her eyes were examined.
