Christopher Aine , the former head of security for Amama Mbabazi‘s Go Forward campaign team, has resurfaced after a disappearance of nearly four months during which time many had thought him dead.
The Christopher Aine enigma which gripped the nation for four months was the perfect subplot of an election where the former premier Amama Mbabazi contested against his erstwhile ally the president.
Aine, a son of Maj. Julius Aine who was amongst the 41 NRA combatants who attacked Kabamba barracks on Feb. 6th 1981 became the embodiment of a groundswell of resentment against the regime.
His family felt aggrieved and neglected yet his late father who died in a motor accident had made the ultimate sacrifice.
When Aine disappeared, he became the venerated symbol of martyrdom when an image purportedly showing his corpse surfaced.
Aine says he decided to return to Uganda from hiding in Tanzania, where he says he had run to to escape state security agents intent on harming him, after he got tired of being on the run.
He surrendered himself to General Salim Saleh whom he hopes will broker a favourable treatment for him after he is handed over the law enforcement agencies that had put a multi-million bounty on his head.
